Early Wednesday, tactical police units in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia arrested four suspected members of the Islamic State. Azizjon B., Muhammadali G., Farhodshoh K., and Sunatulloh have been identified as the suspects. Their surnames have been withheld for privacy reasons but German authorities did say they are all citizens of Tajikistan. Their alleged leader, Ravsan B., has been in jail since March 2019. The men joined the Islamic State in January 2019 and were ordered to form a cell in Germany, where their targets were to include US Air Force installations in the country. Their original mission was reportedly to attack in Tajikistan. ISIS-K, IS' branch in Afghanistan, has been operating and recruiting in neighboring Tajikistan for years at this point as they wage war on the Afghani government and the Taliban. German officials said the men already acquired weapons and ammunition while Ravsan B. ordered explosives. The men will be charged with membership in a terrorist organization and may have been in contact with IS leadership in Syria and Afghanistan while planning their attacks.
