Canadian Military Helicopter Goes Down Off the Coast of Greece


On Wednesday, a CH-148 Cyclone helicopter from the Royal Canadian Air Force crashed some time after it went missing over the Ionian Sea, off the coast of Greece. Contact was lost with the aircraft after it took off from the Canadian frigate HMCS Fredericton during a NATO exercise in the area. A wide debris range has been identified but the exact position of the wreckage is still unknown. The cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder broke away from the main wreckage and have been recovered. At this time one of the six people on board (four RCAF & two Royal Canadian Navy) have been found. Sub-Lt. Abbigail Cowbrough had died sometime before her body was located. The five servicemen left missing are Capt. Brendan Ian MacDonald, Capt. Kevin Hagen, Capt. Maxime Miron-Morin, Sub-Lt. Matthew Pyke, and Master Cpl. Matthew Cousins. Ships from Canada, Italy, and Turkey are still searching for the for the helicopter, with air support from Greece and the US.
